USA: Washers & Washing Machines: Washing Machine Manufacturers

The two main types of washing machine are Front Loading and Top Loading. Top Loading machines tend to be cheaper, and are easier to load and unload because there is no need to bend down. However they have the disadvantage that they cannot be placed under a work surface, or have another appliance stacked on top of them. The highest quality washers have tubs made of stainless steel. A cheaper alternative is porcelain-coated steel, but this can deteriorate through the porcelain chipping.

All washing machines offer a choice settings for wash temperature and wash cycle timing. Some machines are now able to sense the mix of fabrics in the load, and adopt the appropriate wash cycle automatically.
